Jeniferever, serieus, hoe goed zijn die wel niet?

De Tour: De winnaar, geen winnaar

Cadel Evans, en niet mijn verwachte en verhoopte Frank Schleck stond in het geel in Parijs. En toegegeven, hij stond er goed mee. Hij dwong zijn trui af in zowat alle ritten vanaf de rit naar Gap (de gladde beregende afdaling), en ondanks de vooroordelen over hemzelf, heeft hij bevestigd dat hij vooral een gevoelige jongen is, die gewoon niet echt stressbestendig is. En je zou voor minder, met enkele arrogante renners in het peloton (onder andere de winnaar van het groen) en die hele persmeute die alle ethische grenzen overschrijden in de tour.


Had Andy Schleck hem dan meer verdiend? Voor werklust alleszins niet. Blijkbaar is hij niet altijd 100% met zijn vak bezig, maar dat zijn natuurlijk niet meer dan geruchten... Voor zijn klimprestaties? Laten we naar de feiten kijken: Andy heeft Cadel er nergens afgereden. Andy kon Cadel evenwel niet volgen richting Gap, en na de vroege aanval richting Alpe d'Huez van een verder bleke Contador ging de jongste Schleck er veel sneller af dan Evans, die uiteindelijk zelfs met een (imaginair?) probleem aan zijn fiets werd teruggeslagen. In alle andere gevallen klommen ze ongeveer even sterk. Ook in de rit waar Andy 2 minuten pakte. Evans stond er zo goed als alleen voor en verkleinde het gat dat Andy had genomen met hulp van zijn ploegmaats met 2 minuten. Die 2 minuten is Andy hoogstwaarschijnlijk in kracht kwijtgespeeld in de vallei en de beklimming van de Isoard. Petje af voor Andy's prestatie daar trouwens.

Het verschil is uiteindelijk gemaakt in de tijdrit. De Schlecks presteerden niet eens zo slecht voor hun kunnen, maar Evans kon eigenlijk enkel nog op een hele slechte dag verliezen. En hij had een héle goeie, dat kunnen we wel stellen. Conclusie: verdiende winnaar, die gekke Australiër.De tijdrit konden we nu niet echt spannend noemen, jammer genoeg. Ik zat nogal verslagen in mijn zetel te kijken, toen Evans de virtuele tourzege op zak had gestoken, op zo'n 25-30 km van de aankomst. Ik was toen nog een Schleck-fan.

Maar het interview, de vreugde, en de totaal geëmotioneerde Evans op het podium sloegen mijn gemoed totaal om. Ik geloof niets meer van al die voordelen over Cadel. Hij is gewoon geen winnaarstype, zoals Contador en Schleck, die er altijd fris uitzien, weten hoe ze een interview moeten geven om fans te lokken en wat zijn nog allemaal kampioenseigenschappen? Evans is nooit een winnaar geweest, maar sinds het WK in Mendrisio gaat het iets beter.

Waarom heeft Frank Schleck dan niet gewonnen (zoals ik dacht)? In de rit richting Galibier zat hij met het probleem dat hij niet achter zijn broer mocht rijden, en ik denk dat hij toen al had uitgemaakt dat hij zijn kansen ging opofferen. Hij is veel te bescheiden en hij offert zich te snel op, wees daar maar zeker van. Eerlijkheidshalve moeten we wel toegeven dat hij in de korte spectaculaire rit naar de Hollandse berg echt bleek voor de dag kwam. Zo sterk was hij nu ook niet.

Moeten we nog een prestatie in de verf zetten? Ohja, Pierre Rolland, de uiteindelijke winnaar van de witte trui. Meneer laat Sanchez al het werk doen, en rijdt dan van Contador weg op de moordende Alp. Slimme en sterke kerel. De Fransen hebben weer eens een nieuwe gele hoop. Verder ook nog even vermelden dat ik Voeckler nog altijd niet vertrouw. Zelfs in de tijdrit stond hij zijn mannetje, kom nu.

En ja, de Tour is weer voorbij. Is het een leuke tour geweest om volgen? Er is niet eenduidig op te antwoorden. Het is een beetje spannend geweest in de laatste dagen. We hebben wel wat spektakel gezien in de laatste bergrit, en een grootse prestatie met Andy Schleck. Er waren wel leuke elementen aanwezig, maar uiteindelijk is het toch vooral een ontgoocheling. We moesten er een beetje te lang op wachten. Volgend jaar beter, mannen!

P.S.: Thomas (De Gendt), laat u nie doen he! Uwen trouwdatum blijft daar staan als gij en u vrouw da willen. Win in de plaats de Vuelta maar, ofzo.

Elk jaar maak ik een tijdloze met mijn persoonlijk top van beste nummers ooit gemaakt. Dit jaar heb ik er, in tegenstelling tot de vorige jaren (100), een top 200 van gemaakt, omdat het te moeilijk werd om een aantal schitterende nummers niet te vermelden.
